We have a Defence School Mentor!
Townsville is home to Australia’s largest military base, with many families regularly experiencing postings in and out of the region as part of the Ready Deployment Force. At Southern Cross Catholic College (SCCC), we are proud to support our Australian Defence Force (ADF) families through our dedicated Defence School Mentor (DSM), employed during term time.
Our Defence School Mentor provides invaluable support, information and referrals to ADF students and their families, ensuring a smooth transition into our College community and ongoing care throughout their time with us.
Support for ADF students, families and staff include:
- Welcome and farewell programs to ease transitions in and out of the College.
- Individual support to identify and respond to specific student needs.
- Special programs and resources that strengthen wellbeing and resilience.
- Social and emotional support through Star Club (Primary) and Milo Club (Secondary).
- Opportunities for cultural, sporting, academic and personal growth.
- Connections with College and community programs to broaden student experiences.
- Practical support for families, linking parents with College, community and ADF resources.
- Strengthening ties between the College and the wider Defence community.
At SCCC, we understand the unique challenges and strengths of ADF families. Our Defence School Mentor ensures that every Defence child feels a strong sense of belonging and is supported to Love, Serve and Shine during their time at our College.
