For students aiming for tertiary study, the ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank) pathway provides direct entry into university courses across Australia. Introduced in Queensland in 2020, ATAR replaced the former OP system and offers a clearer, nationally consistent framework for senior assessment and tertiary entrance.
The ATAR system includes:
- A combination of school-based assessment and external assessment, set and marked by the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA).
- A focus on comparability and quality to ensure fairness for all students.
- Flexibility in subject combinations that contribute to a student’s final rank.
QTAC (Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre) is responsible for calculating ATARs, based on either:
- A student’s best five General subject results; or
- A combination of four General subject results, plus one Applied subject or a completed VET qualification at Certificate III level or above.
For students who wish to pursue practical skills and training, our VET programs provide nationally recognised qualifications alongside senior schooling. Students may complete courses across a variety of industries, including Certificate-level studies, apprenticeships and school-based traineeships. These pathways prepare students for direct entry into the workforce or further training at TAFE and other institutions.
At SCCC, we are committed to guiding students through subject selection, career planning, and post-school options. With personalised support from our Careers Team, students are encouraged to explore their strengths, set goals, and pursue opportunities that align with their passions.
Whether through ATAR, VET, or a blend of both, Southern Cross Catholic College ensures that every student has a pathway to Love, Serve and Shine beyond their school years.
