From our earliest days, Southern Cross Catholic College has been shaped by a clear purpose. Our College Vision calls us to be inspired by our Marian Charism- to live compassionately, courageously and justly to enhance the lives of all. Our College Mission commits us to a quality education that empowers each young person to love, to serve and to shine - through Mary to Jesus. These convictions are captured in our College Motto: To Love, To Serve, To Shine.
At SCCC we live our Southern Cross Way. It guides our everyday actions and helps us recognise what love, service and shining look, feel and sound like in classrooms, on playing fields, stages and in our community. It is our shared language for Sharing, Helping, Including, Nurturing and Encouraging (SHINE).
We also stand on sacred ground. Built on Bindal Country, our College acknowledges the wisdom of the First Peoples who have gathered on this land for countless generations. We honour the Bindal people’s enduring traditions of meeting, celebrating, educating and caring for Country. In that spirit, we continue the work of learning and community, mindful that we are part of a much older story.
The Southern Cross itself has always been a sign of hope and direction. For us it carries a five-fold meaning:
- it reminds us of faith—like Christ the light, showing the way;
- it calls us to service, orienting our gifts toward others;
- it stirs courage, to step forward even when the path is hard;
- it nurtures compassion and justice, reflecting God’s love for all; and
- it connects us to the wonders of creation, the stars that have long guided peoples across this ancient Great Southern Land.
Together, these elements form a visual identity that complements our motto: To Love, To Serve, To Shine, and reminds us daily of our shared journey—through Mary to Jesus.
Through every season of our history, Mary, Help of Christians -our patron guides us. In her example we find gentleness and strength, reminding us to live compassionately, justly and courageously; through Mary, we journey always to Jesus.
